Clone wars?
Why have they made a cartoon of star-wars movie?Who thinks that this will bomb at the box office? To me i can't stand the thought of an cartoon star-wars movie it's like there not even trying anymore.Do you think it will give the star-wars saga a bad name?
My answer will probably tick you off but at this point I really couldn't care less because I've answered so many questions like this one from people like you who have dismissed this new movie as junk without having a single clue as to what it's about other than the fact that it's an animated movie.
Have you even watched any of the trailers or read any of the press releases about the new movie ... with the way your question reads I would have to think the answer is no because it shows a profound lack of understanding and knowledge about Star Wars and what this new movie will be about. It seems like you heard the words Star Wars and animation and just thought it would suck and didn't bother to even look into what was really going on ... it's so sad that some many people have forgotten the major result of "assuming" something ... if you don't remember that saying drop me a line and I tell you the whole saying but suffice to say you are probably a prime example of that saying. Gee ... don't you know that there has already been a Clone Wars animated show on TCN (The Cartoon Network) ... I suppose you hated that one too. From your question it almost sounds like you think they have gone back and made one of the episodes of the movie into a cartoon ... if that's true then you really are lost because that's not what it is at all.
The simple and undeniable truth of the matter is that if there ever was a movie series that just BEGS to be continued in an animated format it is Star Wars. There are NOT going to be any more live action movies, no matter what Supershadow and his goon squad say ... it is written in stone by Lucas and for the first time in forever he means it.
As for WHY they have made it ... it's really quite simple ... it is to tell the story of the many battles of the Clone Wars that were impossible to tell in the main movies because they would have been about 10 hours long and that wasn't the main goal of the movies anyways. The main goal of the movies was to tell the story of the Skywalker family and the profound effect that they had on the historic events of the Star Wars Galaxy. If you just go by the info from the 6 movies we still don't know squat about the Clone Wars. Don't give me the line "that's what ep II & ep III are about" because you would be very, very wrong. The Clone Wars started at the end of ep II ... the Clone Wars pretty much ended at the beginning of ep III. That levels 3 years of the epic battles of the Clone Wars that we don't know a thing about ... that is why Lucas is making this movie and the TV series that the movie will serve as the kick off for. That lack of knowledge about the Clone Wars was the main reason why Lucas commissioned TCN to do the Clone Wars micro-series that came out in 2003 & 2004 ... to give us a little background info on the Clone Wars that we wouldn't be getting from the movies and to build the hype for the release of ep III. Did you even watch this micro-series ? If you did you would have known why General Grievous seems to be coughing all through ep III. A little FYI if you don't know the answer to that ... it's because Mace Windu damn near killed him during Palpatines kidnapping by using the Force in an attempt to crush him.
If you're not familiar with the Micro-series here's a brief summary about it. There were 25 five minute episodes made ... the last of which ends at the same place ep III begins. The new movie and the series that it will spawn on TCN are set in between ep 21 and ep 25 of the micro-series. That gives between one and a half to two years of story to tell. I realize that you probably won't give a damn but here are a few links to the trailers and other info about the new movie and series:

To be honest, most people what have actually taken the time to find out even just a little about this movie see it as a return to the things that made the OT (Original Trilogy of ep 4 - 6) the timeless classic that it will ALWAYS be ... great story line of an epic battle with a touch of droid humor in it.
Want some more "bad news" ... the entire first season and half of the second season of the series that TCN will air are already in the can and waiting to be shown. The third season is written and Lucas says the series will go on for at least 5 or 6 years. Sorry but there is more "bad news" ... Lucas is working on a live action TV series that will be set in between ep III and ep IV that will tell the story of how the Rebel Alliance was founded and their many battles with the Empire leading up to the events of ep IV. This series will debut in the fall of 2010. Just one more little tidbit of "bad news" for you ... in a recent interview in Entertainment Weekly Lucas confirmed that he is working on redoing all 6 of the movies in a 3-D format and releasing them all back to theaters for us to see. He doesn't give any time line or date that this will happen because they are having a hard time converting the movies into 3-D format but says that it WILL happen. When George puts his mind to something like this he has shown in the past that he always gets it done.
Will this movie "bomb" at the box office ... not a chance in hell ... will it be a record breaking block buster like the other 6 movies ... probably not but it will be able to hold it's own without any problems.
Will it give the Star Wars saga a bad name ... no, if anything it will probably gain back some of the respect it lost in the eyes of some fans because the prequel movies weren't what they wanted to see.
Truth be known ... it is uninformed fans who just assume they know what's going on without even looking into it ... hummm, just like you I would dare say ... that give the Star Wars saga a bad name.
You are more than welcome to your opinion just as everybody else is but an uninformed opinion is worse than no opinion and just plain sad.
May The Force Be With You ...
EDIT: To "Tye S": I agree totally with you but I do have to say that some of the box office numbers on the site you list seem to be a little off but hey ... 4.33 BILLION dollars of world wide box office take is still pretty impressive. See you at the theater on August 15th with the rest of the informed Star Wars fan base.
