Why is my dog eating blankets?
My puppy is 9 months old, is a really good girl, very smart. Within the last month, she began with her dog bed (cotton everywhere), then moved onto blankets (3 thrown away), and this morning chewed on my brand new quilt that I'd planned to keep on my bed for some time. We no longer give her cotton animals, and put her in her crate when we go somewhere (she was allowed out for short periods when the blanket eating started, so we nixed that.) She sleeps w/ me (my husband works nights) and he came home at 6a, left at 6:45. I woke up at 7:20 to find her laying right next to me chewing on my quilt. She has never done that before when we are in the room. I am so angry w/ her and don't know what to do. Should I not let her sleep in the bed w/ me? Please help. Thanks in advance.
Sounds to me like she is getting a couple of new teeth. They are just like babies, they need a chew toy to make new teeth not hurt so much when they break the skin. Get her some soft chew toys (edible ones) also, get her some rawhide sticks. I do not ever give stuffed toys to my dogs, because it encourages them to chew on soft things.
