What did "Flower Power" mean?

What did it mean? Why were everyone also hippies in the 60's?
Everyone wasn't hippies in the '60's. That's a myth if there ever was one. I was there, and I know what I'm talking about. But to answer your question, "flower power" probably had something to do with the song, "Where have all the flowers gone?" It was a Pete Seager song that was written long before the '60's, but as is so often the case, the times caught up with it and ran with it. Hells bells, who doesn't want peace? I remember an argument I had with my old man back in the '60's long before I was drafted. He was an old Marine Colonel who'd fought 4 long years in the South Pacific, so he wasn't exactly sympathetic to my views. He said "War is hell" (General Sherman's old excuse -- if you don't know who he is, Google him!) and I said, "You're right, but do we have to have a hell?" He looked at me and smiled. He said, "I'm with you there, but the politicians aren't!" Truer words were never spoken!
