will a glass cup burst if i leave it in the frezzer?
every time i leave a glass in the frezzer with a drink in it my roommate keeps taking it out, claiming that it is going to burst. its never burst on me in the past, so i dont see a problem. what do you think?
A glass cup (or other glass container) will only burst from freezing under two conditions:
1. If it is filled completely with liquid and tightly sealed;
2. If it is taken out of the freezer and immediately subjected to high heat, such as hot water or an oven or stovetop.
Glass bottles filled with soda or beer will burst, for instance, but not an open container. Ask your roommate to leave it alone, promise to clean up any mess (if it did happen, but it won't).
