I have a black cameo, heavier than resin & with a white patina; how to tell if it is out of stone or glass?
This cameo has a mostly matted finish, with a little shine in some areas. There is a white patina that appears around the embossed design of a woman with a gown. The scene looks as though she had released the three graceful birds to fly freely and that she may be one of the mythical goddesses; not sure which though (possibly Diana?).

I doubt if it's glass, but resin is a very likely material. Resins can vary in weight depending on the chemical they are made from. If it was made from stone you would see some indication of the nature of the stone. Though resin can be made to look like stone.
Find the manufacturer of the piece and email them, it's likely they would be pleased to hear from you and tell you what the cameo is made from.
