How do I get started with my new business?
I just started a home based business. I sell wholesale gift items to local stores and other business. I have advertised in the papers, I have gotten mailing addresses to corporate offices and mailed them letters, and I have called stores on the phone and even delivered catalogs to some of them. It has only been about 2 weeks since I got started, but I still have been able to get any accounts or clients. Does anybody know what I am doing wrong? What else can I do to get businesses to want to buy from me? Please help, I need some money.
Two weeks is way to early to start thinking that you are doing something wrong. A business can take months to actually start seeing decent results. Have you visited the local stores? Sometimes it is better to go in person and to show your products. For every 100 letters you mail out only expect a few responses if even that. Every day you will need to work on getting your business and name out there. If you don't have a website you may want to get one up. Also you may want look for free advertising online like on forums/message boards, classifieds ads etc. Treat your business like a full-time job and if after 3 months you don't see any results than you might be doing wrong.
