Online Shopping has become a very popular way of buying. People like to see the benefits of greater choice, price competitiveness and convenience from buying online in many sectors.
Online stores now provide all kinds of items, offers and accept a wide range of payment methods from their customers. Some items do not necessarily require a lot of information to purchase online so we are confident and sure about what we are ordering however some products which are not purchased very often requires technical information due to its specifications.
Alloy wheels now become a very popular market over the internet. Many small or medium sized businesses open online stores and provide all kinds of wheels to online shoppers. Unfortunately not many e-commerce sites specialised in aftermarket alloy wheels.
As a consumer, you may think the store is good enough to trust, offering the cheapest alloy wheel package on the internet, promising a fast shipment and accepting all kinds of payments but if you do not know about alloy wheels, you might end up buying a set of wheels that do not fit your vehicle.
That is why it is extremely important to know about alloy wheels and your fitment specs. Before starting to browse through online stores, make sure you know what your vehicle's specifications are. You need to know the PCD (pitch centre diameter), OffSet (ET) and centre bore size. These details are generally shown in the manual book of the car.
Technical specifications of an alloy wheel:
PCD: PCD stands for "Pitch Circle Diameter" which is the diameter of circle that goes through the center of the bolt holes. Example: 5x100 or 4x018 are very common PCD values for car manufacturers. As an example: If you are looking alloy wheels for a Volkswagen Golf, your original PCD would be 4x100. "4" gives us the number of studs, "100" gives us the diameter of the studs from the centre of the wheel. In this case, your new Volkswagen alloy wheels must be 4x100. Otherwise wheels will not fit your car. So PCD is very important.
ET(Offset): ET is another important detail you have to be sure of before you buy new alloy wheels. ET is the distance between the imaginary centreline of the wheel(measured in mm. ) and the hub mounting face at the back of the wheel. This value should be in an acceptable range. As an example, if you car is Ford Fiesta III(manufacture year: 89>97), your new wheels(13") must have the ET between the range of 30-36. Values below or above this range will cause problems. A lower ET will move the wheel and tyre closer to the outside of the vehicle where it might scrub and rub against the bodywork and wheel arches.
Centre bore size: Centre bore size is the size of the hole on the back of the wheel that centers the wheel properly on the hub of the car. Getting this right is essential for your safety. Failing to have a proper centre bore fitment, you will start having vibrations while driving. If wheels do not locate on the centre hub then all the pressure is put on the bolts which in some cases you can get the bolts broken and your wheels may come off.
New aftermarket wheels may have different centre bore size but you can get the correct fitment by buying a set of four spigot rings. These rings can fit on the centre hub to provide the perfect fitment of the new aftermarket wheels.
If you cannot find these technical specifications for your vehicle, search internet for an online wheel expert that can help you with your specs. A few e-commerce sites provide online chat assistance which is a very useful tool to get an expert advise.
When you tell the expert the make, model and year of your vehicle, he will be able to advise you the correct fitment for your car. Not only you will get direct answers from an expert but you will obtain information about the available wheel models in stock, special price offers and delivery period, etc.
E-commerce companies who provide online support beside their alloy wheel packages are likely to be more specialised in their sector. They are reachable online and ready to assist their customers with accurate information.
